Hwy 137 near the 19 mile marker.

A long, black sand beach. Although nudism is illegal in Hawaii, the seclusion attracts nudists. Heavy surf generates undertows and powerful rip currents.

Borders the eastern point of Pohoiki Bay off Hwy 137 near mile marker 24.

A small two-acre park with boat ramp. Popular activities in the bay include fishing and surfing. Site of Pohoiki warm springs.

Pavilion, restrooms, showers, picnic tables, camping.

MACKENZIE STATE RECREATION AREA
On Kalapana-Kapono Beach Road (Hwy 132), 9 miles northeast of Kaimu.

A 13-acre beach park well known as a place of eerie sounds and strange sites after dark i.e. "night marchers", processions of the spirits of ancient Hawaiians. Coastal trail. Fishing.

Pavilion, restrooms, showers, picnic tables, camping.

Off Highway 137 past the 10 mile marker.

Site of a spring and ocean fed pool - volcanically heated to a toasty 90 or so degrees - a genuine Pele (Goddess of Fire) bath.

Take Hwy 130 south to Hwy 132. Take Hwy 132 east to Hwy 137. Go 1.1 miles south on Hwy 137 & turn east on Kapoho Kai Drive.

Home to abundant coral and fish life, the tidepools are easily accessible to snorkelers. High surf and strong currents may occur during storms.
