| In addition, for a single or couple seeking the peace and simplicity of Old Hawaii for long-term stays, you are welcomed to stay in any of the above accommodations (Main/Monastery House, the Pu'uhonua House, Retreat Studio, Mango Tree or Banana Patch Cottages) at affordable two week (ask Akiko) rates. The accommodations you will be staying in are noble older homes from the plantation era and are located in a small village of 12 households, 15 miles north of Hilo. Most of the neighbors are in their 80's and 90's, and were born and raised here.
THE MAIN HOUSE For guests who prefer a simple rural-Japanese monastery setting, there are 4 bedrooms adjoining the meditation room. Bathrooms are shared. Visitors sleep on folding futons and observe "silence" from 6:30 p.m. - 6:30 a.m. Breakfasts are jovial, family-style together; ideal for balancing quiet and social time.
The Pu'uhonua House is a 5-bedroom, 2 story, classic plantation house with veranda overlooking a Hawaiian garden, ideal for quiet sitting on a warm sunny day. With a comfortable living room, good reading material, a large equipped kitchen and cozy dining nook, it offers a homestyle serenity and simplicity from the days of Hawaii's past. Guests share the bathroom which includes a large and airy shower room. For the Hawaiians, the Pu'uhonua was a "safe place", a sanctuary, a place of refuge. A sense of comfort and simple warmth fills the house with aloha and connects our guests with a time "past". |
