The Volcano Art Center is a nonprofit, tax-exempt, educational organization created in 1974
to promote, develop and perpetuate the artistic and cultural heritage of Hawaii's people and
environment through activities in the visual, literary and performing arts. Under a cooperating
agreement with the National Park Service, Volcano Art Center presents ongoing programs in the

KONA HISTORICAL SOCIETY TOURS

Place: Kalukalu (14 miles south of Kailua-Kona)
Offering a variety of guided tours, lectures, and exhibits including the Historic Kailua Village
Walking Tour, the Kona Coffee Living History Farm Tour and more. For reservation & cost

RANGER-LED PROGRAMS: HAWAII VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK

Ranger-led walks and hikes enrich your knowledge of the Park's resources and Hawaiian culture.
Walks may be wheelchair accessible or may be longer hikes. The daily schedule of ranger presentations

NELHA PUBLIC PRESENTATIONS
Date: Every Wednesday and Thursday (excluding holidays)

AN EVENING IN THE PARK

GRANDFATHER’S HOUSE: AN EXHIBITION ON KOREA
Date: Through December 31
Time: Monday through Saturday, 9:30 am - 4:30 pm.
Place: Lyman Museum, 276 Haili Street, Hilo
Featuring a full-scale replica of a 1930s Korean home, this unique completely interactive exhibit

MORNINGS AT THE PALACE - HAWAIIANA LIVE!

An educational and entertaining cultural program featuring live hula, the historic pipe organ,
short films, commentary, and a segment with audience participation and interaction. Tickets

CULTURAL DEMONSTRATION PROGRAM

Place: Puukohola Heiau National Historic Site, Kawaihae, S. Kohala
Cultural demonstration programs on Hawaiian crafts. Other special Hawaiian programs are presented
throughout the year. Footpath, guided and self-guided tours, exhibits and interpretive talks,

OBON FESTIVAL DANCES
Date: June through August
Place: Buddhist Temples throughout the islands
The Obon tradition was brought to Hawaii by Japanese immigrants and evolved into a social and
cultural event, as well as a religious custom designed to honor ancestors through an evening
of dance, music and merry-making. Special services usually start at 7:00 p.m. followed by a
festival with bon (folk) dance at 8:00 p.m. Held at different temples on different dates. Check
newspapers for schedule.
33RD ANNUAL PARKER RANCH ROUND-UP CLUB RODEO -
CELEBRATING 160 YEARS OF PANIOLO HERITAGE
Date: July 4
Time: 9:00 a.m. - 12 noon
Place: Parker Ranch Arena, Waimea (Kamuela)
Award-winning Independence Weekend tradition includes action-packed rodeo events, keiki (children)
activities, ono (delicious) food and more. Parker Ranch paniolo (Hawaiian cowboys) are joined

FOURTH OF JULY FREE FAMILY CELEBRATION
Date: July 4
Time: 4:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
Place: Coconut Grove, Kailua-Kona
The Biggest free Family Event on the Kona coast on July 4!. This alcohol, drug and smoke free
event will have a children's program, dance, music, bands and competitions with heaps of great
prizes and "Fireworks". Wanting to make a positive difference in the community. Free

VOLCANO FOURTH OF JULY PARADE & CELEBRATION
Date: July 4
Place: Volcano Village
See the parade at 9 a.m. with the Hawaii County Band, floats, antique cars, fire engines, bicycles,
horses, and animals in costumes! Parade begins at the Volcano Post Office and winds it's way
for one half mile along Old Volcano Road to Cooper Community Center. Then stay for the music,
games, food booths, dunking pond, craft fair and prizes! A wonderful family event! Call: Betsy

2007 TURTLE INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION
Date: July 4
Time: 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
Place: Mauna Lani Bay Hotel & Bungalows, Kohala Coast
The celebration begins at 8:30 am with live entertainment and a carnival atmosphere complete
with games, rock wall climbing, balloon animals and canoe rides for the kids. At 9:30 am the
young Hawaiian green sea turtles are gathered from the Honu Pond and are paraded down to the
ocean where a special chant and honu hula takes place prior to the release of the young turtles.
And during the morning’s festivities, good old-fashioned picnic fare is available, from
hot dogs, hamburgers and cotton candy to Hawaii’s favorite delight, shave ice. The fun

4TH OF JULY - HILO FIREWORKS

A fantastic evening fireworks display at 3 great spots in Hilo: On and along the Bayfront Highway

CULTURAL FESTIVAL "E HULA MAI - COME DANCE"
Date: July 14
Time: 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Place: Hawaii Volcanoes National Park - Kilauea Military Camp
This year's cultural event will be staged on the lawn in front of Kilauea Military Camp on Crater
Rim Drive in the Park. The theme is: "E Hula Mai - Come Dance" and will be a celebration

KONA ORCHID SOCIETY SHOW

A beautiful show with hundreds of orchids on display and for sale. One of the many orchid shows
