VOLCANO ART CENTER

Place: Kilauea, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park
The Volcano Art Center is a nonprofit, tax-exempt, educational organization created in 1974 to promote, develop and perpetuate the artistic and cultural heritage of Hawaii's people and environment through activities in the visual, literary and performing arts. KONA HISTORICAL SOCIETY TOURS
Date: Ongoing
Place: Kalukalu (14 miles south of Kailua-Kona)
Offering a variety of guided tours, lectures, and exhibits including the Historic Kailua Village Walking Tour, the Kona Coffee Living History Farm Tour and more. For reservation & cost call (808) 323-3222. (Inquire about their breadmaking in their Portuguese oven!)

RANGER-LED PROGRAMS: HAWAII VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK
Date: Daily
Ranger-led walks and hikes enrich your knowledge of the Park's resources and Hawaiian culture. Walks may be wheelchair accessible or may be longer hikes. The daily schedule of ranger presentations is posted each morning at 9:00 a.m. in the Kilauea Visitor Center. Call: (808) 985-6000 or visit their site.

NELHA PUBLIC PRESENTATIONS
Date: Every Wednesday and Thursday (excluding holidays)
Time: 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. (Exhibit area open weekdays 8am-4pm)
Place: Keahole Point (one mile south of Kona Int'l Airport)
Ocean technology pioneers harness Arctic-cold deep seawater for the future of mankind. Visit the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority (NELHA) recognized world-wide as a unique and innovative business, research and science technology park. AFTER DARK IN THE PARK: HAWAII VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK

MA LALO O KA PO LANI (UNDER THE NIGHT'S SKY)
Date: Every 3rd Saturday of Each Month
Time: 6:00 p.m.
Place: Mauna Kea Visitor Information Station

EVENING AT KAHUA RANCH - SUNSET DINNER
Date: Every Tues. & Thurs. through December 27
Place: Kahua Ranch (North Kohala)
Come visit an authentic 8,500 acre working cattle ranch owned by the Richards Family. Meet a member of the Family and learn about the Hawaiian Paniolo (cowboy). Transportation. Dinner. GRANDFATHER’S HOUSE: AN EXHIBITION ON KOREA
Date: Through December 31
Time: Monday through Saturday, 9:30 am - 4:30 pm.
Place: Lyman Museum, 276 Haili Street, Hilo
Featuring a full-scale replica of a 1930s Korean home, this unique completely interactive exhibit offers hands-on opportunities to explore life in rural Korea during the 1930s. Call: (808) 935-5021.

MORNINGS AT THE PALACE - HAWAIIANA LIVE!
Date: Every Wednesday Morning (throughout 2007)
Time: 10:30 a.m. - 11:15 a.m.
Place: The Palace Theater, downtown Hilo

AN EVENING IN THE PARK
Date: Every 1st or 2nd Wednesday of Each Month
Time: 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Place: Puuhonua O Honaunau National Historical Park (S. Kona)

HOOPONO PONO KE ALA: HAWAIIAN SPIRITUALITY RETREAT
Date: November 1 - 7
Time: 9:00 a.m.
Place: Kalani Oceanside Retreat, Puna District
Come immerse yourself in the spirit of Aloha for seven days. This workshop features hoopono pono ke ala (making right more right the path), the backbone of Hawaiian spirituality, as taught by Aunty Mahealani Kuamoo-Henry. Hawaiian culture, taught by native Hawaiian kumu (teachers) will fill out the days in this beautiful coastal retreat.There will also be time to relax, and take an excursion to visit the goddess Pele at the island's active volcano, Kilauea. 2ND ANNUAL MOKU O KEAWE INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL
Date: November 7 - 11
Place: Hilton Waikoloa Village & Queen's Garden
The arts of Hula take the stage at this event. Halau from Hawaii, Japan and elsewhere compete in Kupuna, Kahiko and Auana divisions. Master instructors share their expertise in lei-making, chant, dance and other cultural arts. Island artisans bring their treasures to a creative craft marketplace. From the opening concert by legendary Hawaiian musicians to a closing Hoike featuring students from the workshops, Moku O Keawe celebrates the hula experience and shares it with the world. "NO FOOTPRINTS IN THE SAND": A True Story from Kalaupapa, Molokai

Place: Motonaga Garage Gallery at Akiko's B&B
Be part of a very moving evening with co-authors Henry Nalaielua & Sally Jo Bowman. At age 11, Henry was taken away from his home in Ninoole on the Big Island. He was diagnosed with Hanson’s disease and taken first to a hospital in Kalihi on O‘ahu and then to Kalaupapa where he has lived for the past 70 plus years. The history, the heartbreak and the conditions of growing up in Kalaupapa will deepen our compassion for a little known part of Hawaii‘s history .Park at the Hakalau Baseball park and walk 3 minutes into the village. $10, $8 children under 12.
