Preserving our Land - Perpetuating our Culture VOLCANO ART CENTER Date: Ongoing Place: Kilauea, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park The Volcano Art Center is a nonprofit, tax-exempt, educational organization created in 1974 to promote, develop and perpetuate the artistic and cultural heritage of Hawaii's people and environment through activities in the visual, literary and performing arts. KONA HISTORICAL SOCIETY TOURS Date: Ongoing Place: Kalukalu (14 miles south of Kailua-Kona) Offering a variety of guided tours, lectures, and exhibits including the Historic Kailua Village Walking Tour, the Kona Coffee Living History Farm Tour and more. RANGER-LED PROGRAMS: HAWAII VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK Date: Daily Ranger-led walks and hikes enrich your knowledge of the Park's resources and Hawaiian culture. Walks may be wheelchair accessible or may be longer hikes. The daily schedule of ranger presentations is posted each morning at 9:00 a.m. in the Kilauea Visitor Center. NELHA PUBLIC PRESENTATIONS Date: Every Wednesday and Thursday (excluding holidays) Time: 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. (Exhibit area open weekdays 8am-4pm) Place: Keahole Point (one mile south of Kona Int'l Airport) Ocean technology pioneers harness Arctic-cold deep seawater for the future of mankind. AFTER DARK IN THE PARK: HAWAII VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK Date: 2 or 3 Tuesdays per month Time: 7:00 p.m. Place: Kilauea Visitor Center Auditorium After Dark in the Park is a series of free evening programs on topics of geology, biology, Hawaiian culture and history. MA LALO O KA PO LANI (UNDER THE NIGHT'S SKY) Date: Every 3rd Saturday of Each Month Time: 6:00 p.m. Place: Mauna Kea Visitor Information Station An innovative program of cultural experiences shared by members of our Hawaiian communities followed by the regular evening stargazing program. Kona) Each month, there are speakers on different topics such as traditional story telling, hula & chant, crafts, native Hawaiian forest birds,volcano eruption and more. EVENING AT KAHUA RANCH - SUNSET DINNER Date: Every Tues. & Thurs. through December 27 Place: Kahua Ranch (North Kohala) Come visit an authentic 8,500 acre working cattle ranch owned by the Richards Family. GRANDFATHER’S HOUSE: AN EXHIBITION ON KOREA Date: Through December 31 Time: Monday through Saturday, 9:30 am - 4:30 pm. Place: Lyman Museum, 276 Haili Street, Hilo Featuring a full-scale replica of a 1930s Korean home, this unique completely interactive exhibit offers hands-on opportunities to explore life in rural Korea during the 1930s. Date: Every Wednesday Morning (throughout 2007) Time: 10:30 a.m. - 11:15 a.m. Place: The Palace Theater, downtown Hilo An educational and entertaining cultural program featuring live hula, the historic pipe organ, short films, commentary, and a segment with audience participation and interaction. LOCAL SYTLE HALLOWEEN: Three "Obake" Story Tellers on One Dark Night Date: Saturday, October 20, 2007 Time: 7-8:30 p.m. Place: Motonaga Garage Gallery at Akiko’s B&B This is not an invitation to an event- it is a warning to stay CLEAR of Akiko’s B & B, in Wailea Village on October 20th. Three of Hawaii’s strangest storytellers will be calling forth the spirits in what promises to be a VERY spooky encounter. ‘Tita’ Kathy Collins, Alton Chung, and Jeff Gere agree: DO NOT BRING SMALL CHILDREN (who do not shave yet) to this event. IF you are easily prone to nightmares, STAY AWAY.
