CHANGING OF THE KING'S GUARD
Date: Daily
Time: 6:15 p.m.
Place: King's Village Shopping Center (Front Gate), 131 Kaiulani Avenue, Waikiki
Witness this dramatic rifle drill ceremony nightly. After retiring the Hawaiian flag, the world renowned King’s Guard, dressed in uniforms that are the exact replicas of those worn by the Hawaiian Royal Palace Guard for King David Kalakaua in 1875, impress you with a spectacular performance of skill. BISHOP MUSEUM

LYON ARBORETUM TOURS

Enjoy the ever-changing sights and sounds of the 193.5 acre rainforest botanical garden administered by the University of Hawaii-Manoa. THE CANOE: AN ALASKAN AND POLYNESIAN TRADITION EXHIBITION
Date: Through December 31
Time: 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Place: Hawaii Maritime Center, Pier 7, Honolulu Harbor
Indigenous cultures around the world share many similar practices - among them canoeing. This exhibit, produced in cooperation with the Alaskan Native Heritage Center, presents a comparison and contrast of Hawaiian and Alaskan canoe voyaging traditions. The Canoe also celebrates the 2007 January through March voyage of Hokulea, Ku Holo Mau (Sail On, Sail Always, Sail Forever), to the western Pacific and the island nations of Micronesia and Japan. AFTERNOON TOUR AND TEA

Designed for visitors who want to explore the galleries, learn more about art, and socialize over a glass of tea. CHADO - THE WAY OF TEA

Place: Urasenke Foundation of Hawaii, 245 Saratoga Road (Waikiki)
The Japanese tea ceremony known as "chanoyu" is the quintessence of Japanese art and etiquette. The Urasenke Foundation tea gatherings present chanoyu in a simple, direct manner and require no prior experience to participate. Minimum of $3 donation required. Call: 923-3059.

GUIDED TOURS OF THE HAWAII THEATRE

ALOHA FRIDAY KING'S JUBILEE & FIREWORKS

FIRST FRIDAY HONOLULU'S DOWNTOWN GALLERY WALK

RELIVE THE PLANTATION DAYS!

OBON FESTIVAL DANCES

Date: June through August
Place: Buddhist Temples throughout the islands
The Obon tradition was brought to Hawaii by Japanese immigrants and evolved into a social and cultural event, as well as a religious custom designed to honor ancestors through an evening of dance, music and merry-making. Special services usually start at 7:00 p.m. followed by a festival with bon (folk) dance at 8:00 p.m. Held at different temples on different dates. Check newspapers for schedule.

KA HIMENI ANA 2007 (HAWAIIAN SONG CONTEST/CONCERT)

Place: Hawaii Theatre, Bethel Street, Honolulu (Chinatown)
The 23rd annual contest for unamplified, singing of nahenahe (sweet) Hawaiian language songs. The purpose of this contest is to encourage the singing of Hawaiian Music in the old fashioned manner without microphones and to provide opportunities to undiscovered talent . Call: (808) 528-0506.

SHOWCASE 2007 SATURDAY PREVIEW ART SALE

The Honolulu Academy of Arts popular one-day art sale featuring new works by over 100 local contemporary artists. 2007 MADE IN HAWAII FESTIVAL
Date: August 17 - 19

Place: Blaisdell Exhibit Hall & Arena, Honolulu
The 50th State’s largest event for Hawaii-made wares. This year’s Festival is expected to draw the largest attendance yet with more than 35,000 attendees. JACKPOT RODEO

GIRLS WHO SURF - 2ND ANNUAL WAHINE SURF CONTEST

Come see the talented female surfers of Oahu and abroad. More than 60 competitors from 8-40+ yrs old will surf and bodyboard for more than 30 bags of prizes big and small. Last year big winners were awarded an Ukulele or a Gym membership from 24 Hour. More than 20 sponsors including Red Bull, Hawaiian South Shore, Dakine, Xcel, and Surfco have supported this event. WAIKIKI ARTFEST
