Lihue - Kalapaki

ALEKOKO OVERLOOK (MENEHUNE FISHPOND)

A registered National Historic Landmark, the 900 foot mullet-raising fishpond is said to be the handiwork of the mythical menehune (Hawaii's mischievous elves). The adjacent Huleia National Wildlife Refuge can be viewed from the Overlook.

Former sugar plantation center of operations acquired in 1864 - the oldest in Hawaii - a real place with living history, where people experienced the drama of changing Hawaii.

KIPU AREA

Home to Kipu Ranch - used in a virtual parade of Hollywood hits. Location of the Huleia National Wildlife Refuge, enchanting Kipu falls and pool, and the golden cresent of Kipu Kai Beach.

OLD LUTHERAN CHURCH

Hawaii's oldest Lutheran Church, started in June 1881 by German immigrants. Their long experience on board ship is reflected in the unusual ship-like architecture of the church.
